Lake Kariba is a large reservoir on the Zambezi River along the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. On the Zimbabwean side, the lake stretches through a landscape of wooded hills, rocky shorelines, islands, and broad expanses of open water. The reservoir is closely connected with the town of Kariba, which developed around the hydroelectric project at the lake’s eastern end.

The Blue Mountains form Jamaica’s highest mountain range, rising across the eastern part of the island between Kingston, Saint Andrew, Saint Thomas, and Portland. Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, has long served as a cultural and trade crossroads in the Andaman Sea. Centuries ago, it was a stopover for merchants trading tin, spices, and textiles, with influences from Chinese, Portuguese, Indian, and Malay travelers still reflected in the island’s architecture and cuisine. Inland, the Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary protects rainforest habitat home to gibbons, civets, and exotic birds.

Shirley Heights, perched high above English Harbour on Antigua’s southern coast, is one of the island’s most iconic viewpoints. Once a military lookout and signal station during the 18th century, it played a key role in guarding the British naval base at Nelson’s Dockyard.

Jeonju-si, in South Korea’s North Jeolla Province, is widely associated with preservation rather than spectacle. The city’s identity is closely tied to its role as a former provincial capital during the Joseon Dynasty and as the birthplace of the royal Yi family.
