Eigg is a small island in the Inner Hebrides, lying south of Skye and forming one of the four Small Isles. About five miles long and three miles wide, it combines a compact crofting landscape with beaches, moorland, woodland, cliffs, and volcanic formations. The island is community owned through the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust, following a community buyout that placed its future under local control.

Oruro, city in western Bolivia, capital of Oruro Department, located on a plateau about 3700 m (about 12,140 ft) above sea level. Oruro is a major railroad junction and an important commercial and processing center in a mineral, especially tin, mining area. Industries in the city include tin smelting and shoe and clothing manufacture. The Technical University of Oruro (1892) is here. Oruro was settled about 1595 by Spaniards interested in its silver deposits.

Cairns is the majestic entrance to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. This warm, tropical destination is located in Far North Queensland. Must-see attractions in Cairns include the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, which educates tourists about indigenous peoples, and restaurant and bar-dotted Cairns Esplanade, which has a lagoon for swimming.

Port Arthur is a historic penal settlement from the brutal days of the convict settlement. It is located on the southeastern shores of Tasmania.

Erg Chigaga is a remote field of large sand dunes in southeastern Morocco, extending across the Sahara near M'Hamid El Ghizlane in the Drâa Valley. It is one of the country’s largest dune areas, with sand ridges spread across a broad desert landscape far from major settlements. Some dunes rise to around 60 metres, while the surrounding terrain alternates between sand, gravel plains, and dry desert vegetation.

Long regarded as one of the freest-thinking college towns in the U.S., Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Domino's Pizza.
