McMurdo is distinctive not only for its scientific role but also for the unusual scale of daily life in Antarctica. The station has a power plant, medical facilities, dining services, workshops, communications systems, and specialized vehicles used to support research in extreme conditions. Nearby Scott Base, operated by New Zealand, provides another important Antarctic research presence on Ross Island. McMurdo also supports flights and overland journeys to remote parts of the continent.

The island’s temples are a major part of its landscape as more than 20,000 exist across Bali. One of the most visited is Uluwatu Temple, perched dramatically on a cliff 70 meters above the Indian Ocean.

Maho Beach, on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten, is one of the Caribbean’s most thrilling and unconventional beach experiences. Situated directly beside Princess Juliana International Airport, the beach is world-famous for its low-flying airplanes that descend just overhead before landing.
